The PS5 has been on the market for a little over two years now, and its library of games continues to expand. Sony’s next-gen console started off slow, but now is finally hitting its stride with a steady stream of must-play titles that offer everything from a remarkably detailed cyberpunk world to riveting storytelling and slick gameplay.
This month, PlayStation 5 owners can look forward to a handful of major releases, including the return of the Dead Space franchise in a remastered edition, which will run at 4K/60fps with ray tracing enabled for players with the appropriate hardware. Insomniac’s Miles Morales spin-off will also make its debut in 2023, as will the long-awaited sequel to acclaimed action-adventure game PAYDAY.
Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed fans can look forward to a return to the franchise’s parkour and stealth roots with the arrival of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The tactical RPG genre will be bolstered by the release of Disgaea 7, while anime fans will be thrilled to see Sword Art Online: Last Recollection on the horizon.
There are a number of smaller releases coming to the PlayStation 5 this month, too. The charming 3D platformer Astro’s Playroom is a great showcase of the console’s next-gen capabilities, and is available for free with every PS5 purchase. Likewise, the mashup of pro wrestling and fantasy RPG WrestleQuest offers something unique in the PlayStation lineup. Other notable games include the survival horror Thrillkiller, the military shooter Arc Raiders, and the physics-based puzzler Honkai: Star Rail.
Despite some delays, 2023 should be one of the more substantial years for PS5-exclusive games. The big names in development, such as Death Stranding 2, Slitterhead, and Assassin’s Creed Infinity will all likely be a few more years out before they appear, but their release dates should still give gamers plenty to look forward to come 2023.
In addition to those massive games, there are a number of upcoming titles that have been given solid release windows this year. The racing genre will be boosted by the arrival of The Crew Motorfest and Disney Speedstorm, while basketball fans can get in on NBA 2K24.
