We’re less than a week away from the release of Mortal Kombat 1, and NetherRealm Studios has one last surprise for fans. The company has revealed that Jennifer’s Body star Megan Fox will be providing the voice and face of Nitara in the game. The vampire fighter first appeared in the 3D era of the series and will be back for MK1 with a fresh new design that’s sure to turn heads. The trailer shows off her brutal combat abilities, including her claws, fangs, and aerial prowess.
Nitara is a member of the Moroi, a vampire race from the realm of Vaeternus who fights to free her world from Outworld’s control. She’s a blood-thirsty character with a dark, vengeful nature. She’s not a morally black or white villain, which makes her a welcome addition to the MK1 roster. Her debut trailer is packed with fierce fighting action, but also some intriguing dialogue interactions with Ashrah and Kung Lao.
As for her own voice work, Megan Fox is pleased to add that she’s “thrilled to be a part of this iconic franchise and really enjoys being able to bring this character to life.” She also describes the recording process as fun and more creative than some other roles she’s done in the past.
In addition to starring as Nitara, Fox has already lent her voice to two other characters in MK1’s Story Mode. She plays the demon-possessed title character in Michael Bay’s Jennifer’s Body, and she also voices DC Comics superhero Peacelander in the game’s prequel continuity. She says that working on both characters gave her a chance to explore her range of acting talents.
MK1 features a full roster of returning fighters, with many of them getting revised backstories and motivations to fit the storyline of the rebooted franchise. This is the second time that NetherRealm has brought in a celebrity to voice a non-player character, following Ronda Rousey’s turn as Sonya Blade in MK11.
A new trailer for MK1 today shows off the debut of several more fighters. First up is Motaro, who looks to be an interesting tank character with powerful teleportation and grappling abilities. Another of the new fighters is Shujinko, who’s a flying samurai with katana-style koins and an ability to throw explosive fireballs.
Nitara, meanwhile, is an all-out offensive character that can take on multiple enemies at once. She’s a quick, agile fighter that uses her claws and wings to deliver deadly blows. The final trailer for MK1 also showcases new characters Kitana, Reiko, and Motaro.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be available for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on September 19. Check out the full lineup of playable characters in the gallery below. The game is also set to feature a number of reimagined classics, including Liu Kang and Scorpion, both of which have been redesigned for the rebooted era.
